Game Preview: Hard Reset
Hard Reset is a FPS set in an awesome Cyber Punk style universe. Obviously, me not being a professional game reviewer, I don't actually get to play the game. Therefore you can check it out on Kotaku. I know, I know, most people probably don't like Kotaku, but this is actually a nice little preview of a cool looking game. If you take it for what it is, and nothing more, you'll probably enjoy it. Oh yeah, there's also a 7 min video of pure gameplay here. One more link, you can check out the official site here, where they have a teaser and a trailer.
So, because this is a blog about my opinions, here's my thoughts on Hard Reset. First off, WOW! Cyber-punk world, (one of my favorite genres) crazy futuristic weapons, and an interesting story? Sounds good already in my book. To me Hard Reset looks like Bladerunner meets Matrix. Although, that being said, I do have a few gripes with the game. Personally I would think that while (seemingly) only having two weapons that can transform into a few other weapons is cool, it would get a bit stale after awhile. I do like the idea of the transforming weapons, but in the end, it's still pretty much the same two guns. All the enemies look the same, silly two legged robots with varying sizes. Plus, it's a single player only FPS, no multiplayer. In theory it's a recipe for them to create an engaging story without worrying about making multiplayer work. The weapons can be outrageous as well. Great, but where's the re-playability? Then again, this is a preview, and not a review. So we shall have to see after the game is released in September.

From what I can tell, it looks like perhaps you can have the majority of playability in a demo, or rental.
